F|DA was asked to redesign a kitchen and master bathroom in this Westwood Hills French Colonial residence.  The existing kitchen was tiny, cramped, and had circulation problems including a half bath accessed from the kitchen proper. Adjacent to the kitchen was a small eating area and a circulation vestibule connecting the living room to the kitchen, basement stair, and this eating area. We reconfigured the plan creating a small mudroom and closet, half bath and pantry along the outside wall. This allowed the kitchen to become a larger open L-shape. This newly configured space is a distinct room that is spatially linked to the living room, dining room, and family room. This allows the house to have a spatial condition of openness while still maintaining the traditional room relationship that allows the house to be true to itself.

On the second floor F|DA combined an existing small hall bath, with an existing office space off the master bedroom, created a grander master bath and closet. Here FD|A created a vestibule between a larger dressing room, with a custom vanity and the bathroom proper. Here again like downstairs the room was based on the nature of the original house was used to create discreet spaces continuously linked.
