Our client desired a pavilion that would provide a bath, shower/dressing area, outdoor kitchen, shaded living area, and mechanical systems housing for their new natural pool.

The project presented two challenges. First, the structure could not exceed 200 square feet per city regulations. Second, the project site was a tight semi-urban lot, so we had limited space in which to locate the new structure and also retain some of the yard space and privacy from the neighbors.

Inspired by the concept of a delicate yet modern trellis, we developed the project as a pergola with discrete enclosed areas that allowed us to meet the city’s footage limit. A small freestanding pool house contains a private shower and dressing room as well as a covered outdoor kitchen. The pool deck wraps around the pool and integrates with the main house, connecting the two spaces and creating an outdoor lounge area.
